Architecture . Architecture of Interiors, Design for Context

Belém Cultural Centre, 1990, Lisbon

Equipment and furniture. System of signage. Stage components.

The design of equipment and furniture for the Centro Cultural de Belém was driven by the search for formal and structural affinities with its context. In coherence with the modular clarity, the prevalence of volumetric expression, and the strict orthogonality of the architecture, the furniture was conceived as compositions of added elementary volumes and characterized, principally, by the extraordinarily large dimension of the supports to the ground.

In addition to the design of new models, Daciano re-edites the Quadratura line that had been designed for the LNEC-Civil Engineering Laboratory (1971-1972). Moreover, the design of the large auditorium stateroom and the chair of the presidential dining room will be reissued for the design of the chairs of the Town Hall Building (1997-1998) along with the creation of the Sancho office line (1997- 1999).

For the interior furniture of Casa da Música (2004-2005), designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, the architect elects Daciano da Costa’s furniture designed for the Villaret Theatre (1964-1965), the Alvor Hotel (1966-1968), the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1966-1969/1999/2004), the Altis Hotel (1971-1974), the Cultural Center of Belém (1990-1992) and the Coliseu dos Recreios (1993-1994).

In 2015 the Boroa 2 armchair, together with its respective technical drawings and sketches, incorporates the permanent collection of the National Museum of Modern Art of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
