Design for Context

Casa da Música, 2004, Porto

Furniture design. Using templates by Daciano da Costa.

For the architectural project of Casa da Música in Porto, the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas selects from Daciano da Costa furniture conceived in multiple previous works as, for the Villaret Theatre (1964-1965), the Hotel Alvor (1966-1968 ), the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1966-1969 / 1999/2004)the Altis Hotel (1971-1974), the Cultural Center of Belém (1990-1992) and the Coliseu dos Recreios (1993-1994). When inhabiting a new space the re-editions resulted in new versions of the pieces, as in structural alterations or color implementation. As an example, for the Alvor chair, Daciano da Costa proposes a fully wooden chair in order to accentuate and emphasize the lines of the model; the armchairs Boroa 2 are assigned the colors black, white and green.

Later on in 2015, the Boroa 2,  together with its respective technical drawings and sketches, the armchair incorporates the permanent collection of the National Museum of Modern Art of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
