Práctica System

A modular system of metal shelving developed in the 1970s by Daciano da Costa.

Daciano da Costa is the author of the first serial Portuguese designs ever made, such as the metal office furniture produced at Metalúrgica da Longra in the 1960s. The period of artisanal production was thus closed, and Design was recognized
as an autonomous discipline, as a fundamental instrument of the industrial process.
The collaboration between Daciano da Costa and Metalúrgica da Longra would last for more than 30 years, one of the most productive relations of the national industry with design.

"He is one of the first designers to be invited to work in a factory and to do so using the project design methodology", says João Paulo Martins (commissioner of the exhibition “Daciano da Costa Designer”, organized by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2001).

His office furniture has become a contemporary classic.

The Atelier Daciano da Costa, as part of the project to enhance the work and bring back the classic models, launched in 2020 the first pieces of the System 080, now renamed PRÁCTICA, a modular system of metal shelving developed in the 1970s by Daciano da Costa.

PRÁCTICA modular shelving units who value personality and flexibility and give many possibilities to create custom storage systems for small and large spaces.

With a range of colors, selected according the palette used by the author on the various models of metallic furniture, and different sizes that can be updated with new pieces anytime.

A wall shelf is not only a convenient and space-saving storage solution, but also a visible design element and Práctica can offer a way to combine both functionality and aesthetics.

We intend to develop the complete system and move forward by reissuing other storage units from the original system to increase the various possibilities for Práctica to be a great storage solution for home and office.
