Architecture . Architecture of Interiors, Design for Context

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Main Building and Museum, 1966, Lisbon

Interior Architecture, equipment and furniture of the library, cafeteria, lower vestibule/atrium of the Museum, foyer and bar of the Grande Auditório (the largest auditorium), catering services for employees, Board and Administration; stalls of the smaller auditoriums.

Daciano da Costa was invited to participate in this work with the specific objective of characterizing in an exceptional way some areas regarded as special. Perhaps as on no other occasion until then, his input would be established in close dialogue with the architects designing the general project and in the natural continuity of the whole.

The equipment and furniture would extend the defined structural principles, the rationalist and Cartesian geometry, the constructive rigour. The furniture was designed as compositions of box volumes, flat surfaces and straight linear elements.

Later on, for the interior architecture project of Casa da Música (2004-2005), the armchair Foundation is reissued.

For the interior furniture for Casa da Música (2004-2005), designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, the architect elects Daciano da Costa’s furniture designed for the Villaret Theatre (1964-1965), the Alvor Hotel (1966-1968), the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1966-1969/1999/2004), the Altis Hotel (1971-1974), the Cultural Center of Belém (1990-1992) and the Coliseu dos Recreios (1993-1994).
