Estoril Casino, 1966, Estoril

Interior Architecture and furniture of the restaurant and show hall (1000 places), cinema-theatre (600 places) and wonder-bar boîte

As it was common at that time in buildings relevant to tourism (Leal, 1968), special care was taken with the interior design of the new Estoril Casino. In this case, some preliminary general concepts were laid down in a conversation between the architects responsible for the architectural project and the teams of “decorators” invited to undertake the interior design.

The aim was to establish some lines of continuity between the different parts of the whole, although the distinction between them was a starting point. The decorative solutions and furniture to be chosen would be established by each designer, according to the specific programme of the studied areas. Tasked with designing the spaces for shows, Daciano da Costa would reasonably explore the diversity, taking the circular form as the only leitmotiv, applied repeatedly in the formal resolution of the most varied elements.
