Habitat 70 Line

Re-editions of the Habitat 70 Line by Atelier Daciano da Costa

Costureira Chair

The Atelier has undertaken a pioneering project of re-editions of designer Daciano da Costa’s work, with the aim of reintroducing his pieces and objects into new contexts, thereby rewriting the history of Portuguese design.

The artisanal production follows a rigorous methodology that remains faithful to the original designs.

Habitat 70 Line

For the production of this line of wooden furniture intended for domestic use, the manufacturing capacity of Móveis Sousa Braga was combined with the marketing structures of Metalúrgica da Longra. A series of modular storage units was created from scratch, resulting from the combination of interchangeable elements. The seating programme was developed from several previously designed models (Alvor, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), now adapted to new purposes: the expression of the structure was lightened, both by reducing the cross-sections of the supporting elements and by using a light-coloured wood (beech).
